The Quality Inn Winkler was purchased by the Schinkel family in 2008. At this time the hotel was name the Heartland Resort and had been closed down due to a lack of profitability. The property was almost purchased by the local school division for office space prior to the Schinkel’s purchase. The hotel was reopened as the Heartland Inn and had a successful first year due to a major pipeline upgrade that was taking place. The Country Kitchen restaurant was opened in the fall of 2008 along with the new lounge. The hotel was converted to a Quality Inn in the spring of 2012 and immediately got a boost in revenue from the added brand recognition. In 2014 the hotel added 16 kitchenette suites for a total of 54 rooms. Over the years the hotel has been recognized many times by Choice Hotels for the outstanding customer service and for exceptional cleanliness. In 2016 the Schinkel’s became partners with the new General Manager, Jake Peters. Since Jake’s ownership, the hotel has continued to thrive and adapt in the ever-changing business environment.
The team is active in giving back to the community through local sponsorship of minor league teams, charities and more. We are proud members of this thriving community and look forward to continuing to many more exciting years ahead.
One area that we show our genuine care is through actively giving back to the communities we are lucky to be in. We do this through washing over 25,000 coats for the Koats for Kids program the last few years, working with local charities such The Bethesda Foundation and many more. Each hotel actively gives back to the community that we are located in.
